Drain Jetting in Walkford
There’s nothing quite like a weekend emergency drain unblocking callout to keep us on our toes, and this one last Saturday wasn’t an exception.
We’re on hand at a moment’s notice here at Elite Drains Limited whenever the phone rings, whatever the weather, whatever the day with our 24/7 callout service. So when a homeowner in Walkford called us up with a reported toilet blockage, we knew we had to react fast to get them back up and running.
The Callout
It was lunchtime when we were called. The customer was understandably irate and understandably nervous about the situation. Their toilet was getting blocked, and after trying the usual DIY fixes, plunger, hot water, even a chemical drain cleaner, nothing had worked. We kept them calm on the phone and booked an emergency drain unblocking visit straight away.
We arrived on-site in about an hour.
Initial Inspection
Upon arrival, the problem was easily seen. Wastewater drained slowly and the toilet was threateningly close to overflowing. Not exactly a wish for anyone on the weekend with a full house and a party that evening.
We began by lifting up the nearest manhole cover to have a peek at the drain. From past experience, we pre-empted that we may be dealing with a soft block, a blockage of wipes, paper, or grease, until we got in there, we’d never know for sure. Sure enough, we could see the back-up in the pipe. The drain was fully clogged and needed a good jetting.
Drain Jetting in Action
We sent our high-pressure drain jetting equipment out at once. Luckily, all of our vans are equipped with the latest in high pressure jetting equipment. For those who have not seen it before, drain jetting is the process of deploying a hose with a specialist nozzle to blast water at very high pressure in the drain pipe itself. It’s one of the most effective ways to clear stubborn blockages and scour out the inside of pipes.
We placed the hose into the clogged drain and activated the jetter. The high-pressure jets of water began loosening the clog right away. The nozzle spirals slightly as it moves down the pipe, giving a 360-degree drain clean. You could feel the difference, first resistance, then a whoosh as the water began moving freely.
In just a few minutes, the blockage was removed. The toilet flushed normally again, and the waste was draining away properly.

Full Drain Clean and CCTV Survey
We could have stopped there, but that is not Elite Drains’ philosophy.
We explained to the customer that, although the first block had been cleared, it would be prudent to do a full drain clean and CCTV drain survey. This would tell us if there was a fault behind the blockage, e.g., cracks, roots, scale build-up, that could possibly have caused or contributed to the blockage.
They agreed, so we went ahead.
We used the jetter again to clean the whole length of the affected drain run. This is not just a protective measure for the prevention of future blockages but also enables us to visualise better for the CCTV survey.
We next ran our professional drain camera in and inspected the entire line very carefully. The good news? No major structural defects. There was a bit of grease accumulation and some small patches of scale, but nothing that required excavation or heavy-duty drain repair. We showed the customer the video and described it in lay terms.
Peace of Mind Restored
When we completed packing up, the customer was obviously relieved. The toilet worked, the drains were clean, and they had the confidence that all the hidden plumbing was in working condition. That’s what we’re here for.
Jobs such as these are the reason we do what we do. We’re not just unblocking, we’re helping people out of a stressful situation. No mess, no stress, just effective drainage services from a dedicated team.
